Why a Curtain Needs a Lining

There is more than one reason to add a lining fabric to a window curtain, and there is more than one type of lining. At the drape, we offer two high-quality linings. There is a 100% cotton privacy lining and a 100% blackout lining. Each of our lining fabrics is full of benefits that you may not be aware of.

Here are 5 reasons your home will benefit from custom curtains with a lining.

#1 - Save on energy bills

Older homes that have single pane glass windows can be very drafty. Adding a lining to a curtain will increase the insulation that the curtains provide. This is a year-round benefit. In the colder months, the curtains will keep the cold air out for a cozy space. When the months get warmer, a lined curtain will reduce the amount of sun that heats up a room. If you have air conditioning, it will be more difficult for the cool air to leak out.

#2 - Keep out light

Adding a blackout lining will keep light out. A blackout liner needs to be a soft and pliable fabric, but also block light. Blackout linings are not all created equal, so be sure to check the quality before you commit. A common test is to hold the flashlight of your cell phone to the fabric to see if the light can shine through.

#3 - Protect your investment

The sun will fade your curtain fabric. If your windows face South or East, they receive a lot of direct light. Extend the life of your custom curtains with a lining that protects the color of the fabric. It will also help protect the other textile in your home such as sofas and rugs.

#4 - It is a homeowner association requirement

Many homeowners associations and neighborhoods require from the street view, that the window curtains are white. Adding a lining to your curtains will answer this requirement and allow you to keep the interior of your home in the colors that you choose.

#5 - Add glamour!

Window curtains that are lined will have a better drape and a polish to them that will add the perfect finishing touch to your room.
